SunSmart

Coburg North Primary School is a registered SunSmart school and all students must wear school sun hats in Terms 1 and 4. We are committed to ensuring both students and staff are protected from over exposure to UV rays which can cause skin and eye damage and skin cancer. Our school uniform includes protective clothing and sun hats, and we also provide shady spaces for students to access.

But we need your help. As a school we will be implementing strategies that help to remind students to apply sunscreen before going outdoors. Please help support our initiative by:

  • Supplying your child with SPF30 or higher, broad-spectrum, water-resistant sunscreen for use at school
  • Talking to your child about the importance of sunscreen use
  • Ensuring your child knows how to apply sunscreen independently and has had some practise so that they can apply it safely at school
  • Being a SunSmart role model at home with sunscreen, hats, clothing, shade and sunglasses.
Students are encouraged to wear their hats on any day of the year when then UV index is 3 or above. We have the SunSmart widget on our website to see today’s UV index.
