​Coburg North Primary School has adopted a comprehensive approach to reading and spelling by implementing the PLD Literacy program. This program offers students targeted word study lessons in class that focus on specific letter-sound concepts that relate to reading and writing.

PLD Literacy is an evidence-based approach to Structured Synthetic Phonics designed for primary school students in Australia, from Foundation to Grade 6. It draws from the disciplines of Speech Pathology, Occupational Therapy and Education, and has proven to improve literacy outcomes for a broad range of students.
 
With PLD Literacy, teachers have implemented a unified vision and follow a single learning sequence for this area, ensuring that students benefit from consistent and continuous instruction over the years.
