School Council

Coburg North Primary School has an active School Council, which is:

• the governing body of the school
• the key decision-making body for school policy and strategic direction
• a partnership between parents, staff and the broader school community

School Council provides an important opportunity for parents to contribute to the strategic direction and priorities of the school. It focuses on policy, strategic direction and oversight, and does not manage the day-to-day operations of the school or individual matters.

The Council consists of up to 13 members:

• the Principal (Executive Officer)
• eight elected parent members
• four elected Department of Education (DE) employee members
• one co-opted community member

School Council Elections
All parents and Department of Education employees are eligible to nominate for School Council and to vote in elections. Elections are held annually in February or March. Members are typically elected for a two-year term.

Annual Community Meeting
The School Council holds an Annual Community Meeting each year. All members of the school community are welcome to attend.
This meeting provides:

• an overview of School Council operations
• the presentation of the school’s Annual Report
• an opportunity to learn more about involvement in School Council or its subcommittees
