Facilities
|
In 2019, Coburg North underwent a large capital works project, which involved the redevelopment of the school’s specialist facilities and the construction of new administration offices, a library, and six classrooms.
Since then, work has continued to further improve the school grounds, including the installation of three new playgrounds with designated passive and active play. We've also created a new front entrance, which has established a safe waiting area for parents and students before and after school. The school boasts a beautiful Kitchen Garden 'Coburg Crop' with a chicken coop, greenhouse, 14 raised beds, a 4 bay composting system, an outdoor oven and a wonderful outdoor learning space. These facilities aswell as our garden room are used for small group or individual therapeutic horticulture sessions with students, aswell as educational programs that support classroom units of inquiry. February marks the completion of a Minor Capital Works project on the little area toilet blocks. We are incredibly grateful to the Department for this investment of approximately $500,000 in our school facilities. We have many projects planned for 2026, we invite fundraising support from the school community, if you are in a position to donate please consider making a tax-deductible donation to our Building Fund. |

Classrooms
Coburg North has 28 classrooms consisting of 12 classrooms in permanent buildings and 16 portable based rooms. Each classroom is equipped with a large screen television and Apple TV box to enhance teaching and learning programs. All our classrooms have air conditioning and heating. Sporting Facilities
Coburg North has a proud history of competing against other schools in district athletic carnivals and participating in inter-school sports programs. The school boasts a large grassed oval with soccer and AFL goals, a full size indoor basketball/netball court (hall), two outdoor basketball/netball courts and several bat tennis courts. Playgrounds
The school currently has four playground spaces. Our ‘Pirate Ship’ playground is located outside the junior classrooms, 'Mount Aspiring' is located in front of the basketball courts. Our foundation playground is inspired by a treehouse, made primarily out of reclaimed timber, with nature and water play. We also have a seniors playground next to the grass oval. New spaces will be developed through our school’s master plan. Kitchens/Canteen
The school has two Merri-bek City Council registered commercial kitchens that are regularly used by students, the parent community and our Out of School Hours Care program. Students have the opportunity to use the kitchens as part of the Italian program. Our Parent and Friends Committee regularly use the kitchen in the canteen to prepare specially themed lunch orders and meals for fundraising. Please note the school does not operate a daily canteen service, our student lunch orders are outsourced. |
Library
Our library has a large range of engaging fiction, non-fiction, and picture story books. All classes have a timetabled weekly library lesson taken by the class teacher. The school encourages children to borrow books weekly. In 2025, our library furniture was updated to a modular system which has created even more flexibility to meet each classes needs. Covered Outdoor Learning Area (COLA)
This multi-purpose space is used for assemblies, interschool sports and community events. We have also resurfaced this area with four-square courts for the children to use in play times. In 2024, our P&F fundraised to add an AV System to the COLA which has been a great asset for our assemblies, school play and community events like carols night. Music Room
Our music room consists of three different spaces, the classroom, a recording studio and a practice room. The classroom space is a flexible space that can be opened up to create both an indoor and outdoor stage. Both stages are regularly used for student musical performances and assemblies. Multi-purpose/Italian Room
Our large multi-purpose room currently houses our F-6 Italian program. This large open space adjoins the STEAM/OSHC Centre and these two spaces are often used together for large gatherings such as student led exhibitions, incursions, year level assemblies and staff meetings. STEAM/OSHC Centre
This large space is home to our Out of School Hours Care program which is run by independent provider TheirCare, they run both our before and after school care, as well as school holiday programs. This space is also home to our STEAM classes where students participate in designing and carrying out experiments to test scientific ideas, build and design, and use technology is a variety of ways. |
