At Coburg North Primary School we value the Arts and make sure that every child has the opportunity to explore and create in a variety of ways. Every class has an hour a week for music.
All students participate in a comprehensive sequential singing and instrumental program which aims to build a firm foundation for music making. Part songs and rounds are utilised to develop solid vocal skills. Students also use a wide range of instruments including keyboards, guitars, drums, recorders and glockenspiels as well as computer recording technologies.

Students in grades Prep to 3 can join the Junior Choir and those in grades 4 to 6 can join the Performance choir. Both choirs perform in the local community. Children in the upper grades can join the 3/4 School Rock Band or the 5/6 School Rock Band. There is also a Kid’s Orchestra which gives students the opportunity play together using acoustic instruments. Choirs and Bands are unauditioned, however regular attendance is a pre-requisite for taking part in performances.
On Wednesdays at lunchtime the Movie Club meets in the Music Room to make short films. This is an example of the great work our budding young filmmakers have created:
School ConcertA school concert is held every two years. It gives all students the opportunity to perform and incorporates dance and drama. Each alternate year a smaller Christmas Concert is held at school.

Recently one of our students came to us with two songs she wrote herself over the holidays. This is “Bling Blast” by Jemma
Instrumental Music Lessons
'Octopus Music' lessons aim to develop in students all aspects of music making and appreciation. We focus on sight-reading, song writing and aural recognition, while helping students develop self confidence and problem solving skills. Lessons are available on Keyboard, Guitar, Ukelele, Bass and Drums, from as little as $12.50 per week. Half hour lessons are held weekly by an experienced and enthusiastic teacher. As students progress they have the opportunity to perform at school events, and join the school band. Most instruments are available for hire, and home practice is essential.
Another great feature of the musical life of our school is the parent choir "composed." seen here sing "Yellow" by Coldplay.
