By now you should have brought in the basic costume items as previously requested. We will take them with us to the Darebin Arts and Entertainment Centre on the rehearsal day and they will be used that night. You need to take your child to the Centre at 6.15pm. Teachers will take children downstairs at 6.30pm and the show will start at 7pm. The bar will be open and there will be entertainment until the concert start time of 7pm. The show will be finished by 8.30pm.

Tickets are on sale now. All ticketing is through the www.darebinartscentre.com.au (Ph: 84708282) and the cost is $25 for adults and $15 for children and concessions. To ensure all families have the opportunity to get tickets, a family limit of three tickets will initially apply until 31st August. After this date, families who need extra tickets simply ring the DAEC or logon and purchase more. Seating is not numbered so family members can sit together regardless of when their tickets are bought. Performers do not need tickets.

All performances will be filmed professionally and DVDs will be available for sale at a later date.

IMPORTANT! We have a lot of sets and props that need transporting to and from the venue. If you have access to a suitable vehicle and are able to assist we would be very appreciative!

Thanks

REMINDER

To make our concert a big success we are asking you to provide some simple items of clothing. More elaborate costumes will be provided by the school. We would like you to put the requested clothing items in a bag with your child’s full name and grade on it and bring it back to school by 24th August.

When we receive the clothes we will check to see that they are correct and then store them until concert night.  We will contact you if they are not suitable. If you are having trouble locating any item, don’t worry, contact me at sharpe.stephen.s@edumail.vic.gov.au  and the costume committee will assist.

On concert night children will go to the Darebin Arts and Entertainment Centre at 6.15pm in casual clothes, change and perform in their costume. They should bring a bag to put their casual clothes in. After the performance they will wear their costume items home and bring their other clothes home in the bag.

Dear Parents,

Unfortunately due to unforseen circumstances, we have had to change the dates of the School Concert. The new dates are as follows:

Monday 3rd September 7pm: surnames A-G

Tuesday 4th September 7pm: surnames H-O

Wednesday 5th September 7pm: surnames P-Z

I realise this is short notice and it may inconvenience some families. However, children who genuinely can’t attend on their designated night will be moved to another. If this is your situation email me on sharpe.stephen.s@edumail.vic.gov.au and I will transfer them. The permission notes that were sent out regarding the rehearsals are now redundant and new ones will be sent home next week. For those who have already paid, no further payment is required.

This year’s school concert is all about art. Held over three nights at the Darebin Arts and Entertainment Centre in Bell Street Preston, it will be educational as well as entertaining. It will, in a lively and entertaining way, teach us about some of the great artists who have helped us understand the world we live in. You’ll be transported to a tropical island, ancient Egypt and other exotic locations as they tell their stories.

Tickets are on sale now. All ticketing is through the Darebin Arts Centre website http://www.darebinartscentre.com.au/Page/page.asp?Page_Id=1331&h=0   (Ph: 84708282)

Re: Props and Sets for the School Concert

Dear Parents/Guardians

In order to make our concert a big success, the Friends of the Arts group are holding 2 prop making workshops.

This is your opportunity to build and paint some fun sets and props for the performances. No experience is necessary and we will provide all the materials.

The first working bee is on Saturday August 18th in the hall. We will start at 10am and finish at 2pm. The second one is on Saturday 25th at the same time.

We would love to see as many people as possible. You can email me on sharpe.stephen.s@edumail.vic.gov.au to let me know numbers so we can plan accordingly.

Most items will be easy to find but some like the khaki pants, white pants and yellow leggings might be a bit harder. If you have old clothes that you don’t need that match what other grades are looking for, consider donating them. Remember, no logos or faded blacks.

We will need help completing the costumes so if sewing is your thing, and you have some free time please let me know.

It will be a truly exciting event. The performances are split alphabetically by family names.

Tuesday 11th September 7pm- A-G

Wednesday 12th September 7pm H-0

Thursday 13th September 7pm P-Z

Children in grades 5 and 6 have had the opportunity to try out for the main roles. The standard was very high and a very talented bunch of kids have been chosen to act out the script written by Simon and myself.

The Friends of the Arts group will be the main group of parent helpers, but anyone who is interested in working on the following should contact me to find out what needs to be done.

Costumes (cutting, sewing, decorating)

Props (constructing, sourcing, painting)

Equipment/Prop Transportation (driving a suitable vehicle)

Music/Dance

As part of concert preparations there will be no Junior choir, Orchestra,  Performance Choir, 3/4 or 5/6 band practice in term 3. Instead, that time will be used to work on various aspects of the concert.
